About Client

Character Arc is an education-focused company providing a holistic solution for assessing and developing character skills among students. Their offerings include Holistic Admissions, Student Success and Retention, Student Coaching/Mentoring, Faculty Leadership Development, Peer Mentoring, and Institutional Effectiveness. Character Arc’s product offers services such as Assessments and Mentoring to support overall students’ growth and development.

Problem Statement

Character Arc faced challenges with escalating costs, concerns over vendor lock-in, and suboptimal performance for specific workloads on AWS. Seeking alternatives aligned with their needs, they turned to Globalvox for a transformative solution. Recognizing OCI’s competitive pricing models, commitment to reducing vendor lock-in, and specialized services for high-performance workloads, Globalvox proposed migrating to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. OCI’s emphasis on security, compliance, and global reach resonated with Character Arc’s requirements, offering a robust and scalable cloud platform for future growth and innovation.

Solution

Globalvox executed a comprehensive migration from AWS to OCI across various domains to ensure a seamless transition for Character Arc. GlobalVox identified key components of AWS infrastructure and created a plan to migrate from AWS RDS to Oracle’s autonomous database using OCI ADS (Autonomous Database Service). This rendered fully managed database solution inclusive of highly available architecture and maximum available architecture to cater Character Arc’s business continuation needs.

Infrastructure

Migration from AWS RDS to OCI’s Autonomous Database Service, providing a fully managed database solution with automation and high availability. Transition from AWS EC2 to OCI Compute instances, leveraging flexible compute options and robust performance capabilities. Replication of Elastic Load Balancing functionality using OCI’s Load Balancing service for high availability and scalability.

Networking

Replication of VPC architecture in OCI, offering isolated network environments for workloads.
Transition from AWS Route 53 to OCI’s DNS service for reliable and scalable domain name resolution. Replication of CloudFront functionality using OCI’s Fast Connect and third-party CDN integration for efficient content delivery.

Databases

Migration from AWS DynamoDB to OCI’s NoSQL Database service, providing scalability and low-latency. Replication of ElastiCache functionality using OCI’s Redis service for high-performance caching.

DevOps

Migration from AWS Lambda to OCI Functions for serverless code execution without managing infrastructure. Replication of CodeBuild functionality using OCI’s DevOps Services and git integration for managed build services.

Observability & Monitoring

Replication of CloudWatch functionality using OCI’s Monitoring and Notifications service for comprehensive monitoring and alerting. Transition from AWS CloudTrail to OCI’s Audit service and Log Analytics service for detailed logs and compliance.

Conclusion

Through the utilization of GlobalVox’s services and OCI’s robust infrastructure, Character Arc successfully met their migration objectives, guaranteeing business continuity and scalability for their applications and workloads. This migration resulted in reduced overall spending on infrastructure while gaining access to enhanced and more valuable services. The process entailed meticulous planning, mapping AWS services to equivalent OCI offerings, and executing a detailed work plan for a comprehensive data center exit from AWS.
